It's very common to assume by a child's gender that they'll like certain toy's and color's but not always. Every child is unique, a child's gender shouldn't give you the assumption on how you think they should express themselves. In today's society it is more accepting with what a young child decides on, as in a favorite color, t.v. show, clothing or toy's. Ultimately you want your child to be who they want to be, whatever makes them happy should make you happy as well. As far back as I can remember every toy I had was pink and something with glitter. I don't think anyone ever told me which toys were appropriate for my gender, always receiving girly toy's seemed normal so from there on out I knew girls play with these toys and boys play with those toys. I never had the desire to play with boy's toy's when I was younger, I was into polly pocket and bratz doll. Being the older sister, my little sister pretty much followed in my footsteps. She wanted everything I had, even when we got older neither of us had the urge to play with boy toys.
Great post! I totally agree with your views.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your post. I agree with your statements, I was never really pushed to pick a certain toy either.
